"A GOOD COUNTRY"

-Press Aiiociation.)

German Captain's Opinion of N.Z.

(By Teiegraph-

! WELLINGTON, Last Night. 4 This is oue of the good countries of the world. It is a country worth working for and worth fighting for," said Captain Max Schmitt, of the HamburgAmerika Line's steamer Gera, in an interview to-day. This is the first visit Captain Schmitt and, indeed, every member of his crew has paid to this country, but during the stay at Auckland and the short sojourn at Wellington they have come to appreciate very much the hospitality extended to them and they have been impressed with the Dominion 's picturesque qualities and the conditions under which the majority of the people live. "There are a lot of grumblers on this earth," said Captain Schmitt, "but I have been through a lot of countries j and seen a good deal of the way people live in them, and in these few days I have spent here I have come to the conriusion that the people of these islands ire living on a very good spot."
