They usually try to put the blame on the other party,.' ' said Senior-Sergeant W. Pendef to Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate 's Court this morning when Frank Duncan Horrick, of Herbertville, t'armcr, plcaded guilty to a charge of negiigent driving. A fino of £1 10/-, with 13/- costs, was imposed. Senior-feergeant Pender said that the defendant ha-i been driving along the Napier-Hastings road bchind two other ear» at a speed which he estimated at 40 miles an hour. He pulled out to pass, and met a car coming in the other direetion. Although he applied the brakes a collision oecurred, and a passcnger in the other car reeeived minor injuries. Mr John Humphrics, for the defendant, said that the accident was due lo an error of judgment in a poor light. Several prosecutions were brought. by the borough trafiBc inspector, Mr. A. M. Uliver. Fines were imposed for thw following convictions: — John Balmer Speakman, of Napier, insurance agent. was fined lo/-, witli 10/- costs, for overtaking a veliicle on an intersection. John Copas, of Napier, plumber, was fined 10/- for riding a eycle without a light. . Majorie' Clark, of Napier, was fined 10/-, without costs, for riding an unJighted bicycle at night. For overloading a motor-Iorry, Samucl Ohase, of Napier, contractor, was fined £3, with 30/- costs. Tony Marinovic, of Wellington, restaurant-keeper. was fined £4, with 10/- costs, for speeding. An order was made endorsing his licence.
