WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Perfect weather conditions prevailed at Waipukurau on Saturday, when the Central Hawke 's Bay Rugby SubUnion's competitions were continued. All the grounds were in use, and there was a good attendance. Back play was lacking, *and fast, forward games resulted, with low scores being registered. On No. 1 ground Waipukurau drew with Porangahau after a hard game. - The teams were: Waipukurau (Blue and "White): D. Norman, T. Forguson, B. Gibson, G. King, R. Rupuhu, R. Crapp, T. Lovett, A. Chapman, W. Benson, B. Pedersen, M. Lane (Capt.), D. Johnstone, M. Ferguson, R. Spotswood and N. Little. Porangahau (Green and Black): J. Bassett, A. Kuru. R. Ross, D. Cochrane, H. Petuha, G. Kuru, G. Moana, J. Pahi, D. Tibble, C. Scia Scia, E. Cook, D. McDonald, W. Niania, B. Cook and H. Hokianga.. Porongahau from the start set the pace, but after ten minutes play the Waipukurau backs opened np. A good run by T. Ferguson carried play into Porangahau territory. A counter-at-tack by the Porangahau backs put Waipukurau on the defence. Play fluctuated in the Blues' half for a consider able period, with the dcfenders turning the tables and counter-attacking at times. It was after 30 minutes' play that Pahi, fielding the ball from a loose scrum, opened Ponragahau's score with a try well out. His kick fell short. Fortunes varied during the remainder of the first half, with rugged forward play taking place. N. Little was injured and replaced by Maecula. On resumption of play Waipukurau forwards worked better and carried the ball into the Porangahau 25. The defenders were penalised twice in a Short space of time, but Johnston and Ferguson could not open Waipukurau 's score. A nice run by Ross put Porangahau on the attack. and Pahi further increased their score with a penalty kick. Waipukurau, eager to score, pressed hard, and when Porangahau were again penalised twice Lane made no mistake and equalised. With both sets of forwards working hard, rugged play took place. The backs were starved, but nevertholess tho game was played at a furious pace. Fortunes varied, and individual back movements were well stopped by tho good defence of both teams. Time was called with Porangahau attacking strongly. t Mr C. Moore refereed. The scorers were: Waipukurau (G), Lane (2 penalties); Porangahau (6), Pahi (try and penalty). OTANE BEAT OLD BOYS On No. 2 ground Waipukurau H.S.OB., fieldiug two junior players, gavc Otane a hard game. The teams were: Otane (Blue): Toiley, Smith, McWah, Osbourne, Peue, Ria,ch, Phillips, Beale, Orr, Green, Burgess (capt.), Scrimgeour, Wrigl t, Stephens, Higgs. Old Boys (White): B. Atkins, L. Morton, B. Holms, P. Monteith, D. Jamieson, T. Galgy, C. Ross, if. Tansley, T. Brian, Oook, S. Coles, 0. Wilson (capt.), A. Wilson, D. lieidy, B. Mandeno. With. Old Boys leading by tliree points to nil at half-time Otane forced the pace in the second half and two tries wero scored. Green failed to convert either. Both teams lacked combination*, both in. the forwards and backs. Good tackling by the Old Boys' rearguard stopped the heavier Otane backs from scoring on several occasions. Mr J. Jeft'ries refereed. The scorers were; Otane (6) Burgess (try), Smith (try); Old Boys (3), Atkns (penalty). JUNIOR RESULTS Old Boys 11, Waipawa 6 Porangahau 8, Otane 3.
