Pile, received very severe burnB when her clqthrng caught fire but ehe saved the chpd's Jif 6, ghe was admitted to the Whakatane H^^pital where her condition is rfipqrted to be serious but hopes are held for hei: recovqyy. The baby was slightly burned, • Mrs Pile 's husband, a prominent local representative footballer, wai absenf at a m'atch. She left her three children in the eottage while she went to a nqighbopr's honse for some milk, Lopking back, she saw her own home on fire and ran to the scene, finding her two elder children, had escaped but that the baby was still inside. She frantically dashed in and brought out the infant though the flaines were bursting out of the wiudows and the rootf.
