! i The following instrumental items will j be rendered at the Hastings Orchestral j Society '3 concert in the Municipal | Theatre,on Monday, July 19: — Overture, "Fingals Cave" (Mendels-sohn-Bartholdy^ 1807-1847). — In April of 1829 Mendelssohn paid hia firet visit to London and condudted his symphony in C minor at one of the concerts of the Philharmonic Society. In the summer oi' that year he visited Scotland and the HebrideSj and this visit inspired liirn with this overturo and also his Scotch Symphony. Spite from Ballet Egyptien (Alexandre Luigini). — Ko. 1, allegro non froppoj No. 2, allegretto; No. 3, andante soslenuto; No. 4, andantina expressivo. The ecore of this suite was presented to the society by Mr. George Tong. As its name dmplies, the whole atmosphere suggests association with the "Land of the Pharaoh&i" Liebestraum- (F. Von Blon).— A delicate number written originally for strings, woodwind and four horns. The horn parts have been rewritten for the brass. The Butterfly (Theo Bendix). — A charming duet for Aute and elarinet. Suite, "The Merchant of Venico" (Kosse). — No. 1, Prelude.I.; No. 2, intermezzo, "Portia"; No. 3, Oriental M»rch; No. 1, Prelude 2; No. 5, Tho Dogos' March.
