Conflrmation Service. A confirmation service is to be held in St. -Paul's Church, Wairoa, on Sunday evening. the celebrant being the Bishop of Waiapu. Bowling Tourists. A party of Wairoa bowlers ie to leave on Sunday for Auckland en route to Suva to take part an a big tournameut there. The party, which. is eomposed of Messrs J. McGoldriek, W. J. Clark, H. Roberts, and E. Galbraith. sail on Tuesday for Suva. Basketball Challenge. The Wairoa Basketball Association has ckallenged Poverty Bay for the Robson Cup, for July 3. This date is not suitable for the Bay, and August 14 has now been suggested, but it is not known yet whethor this will suit Wairoa or not. Meat Export. If the vessels now scheduled to lift frozen produce at Waikokopu meet wath a fair run of luck as regards weather conditions, the congestion at the Wairoa freezing works should soon bc lessened. The Matakana and Fremantle are to load this month, each taking about 12,000 freight carcases. The first vessel, the Port Fremantle, is to load about July 16. Travel Talk.' Mr E. C. Boyes, headmaster of the Wairoa District High School, gave a very interest'iug talk at the last meeting of St. Paul's Meu's Club. He .carried the listeners with him during the progress of a holiday trip he toolr in Europe in 1928. Tlie talk, which was not only bright but instructive, is to be continued at the next gathering of club members. Te Reinga Falls. , At the last ineetlng of the Wairoa Chamber of Commerce the agenda was# small, but one question in which that body has been very active has been advanced a stage. This is the question of providing better access to the foot of the beautiful falls „at Te Reinga as an additional attraetion on the new inland highway. The Hon. R. Semplo has now informed the chamber that the matter will be dealt with when a survey has. been made in connection with the deviation. Coronatfon Medals. ltecentJy, at the Makotuku School, the children were paraded to receive" the medals given by the Ormondville Town Board in commemoration of the. Corouation of King Gerge and Queen Elizabeth. These medals were presented by Mr. T. Fothergill, representing the Town Board, who addressed the children on the importance of the occasion for which these souvenirs were bestowed. Mr. Neilson thanked the board, and their representative on behalf of the parents and children. Peacc Memorial Hau The quarterly meeting of the Peace .Memorial Hall Committee was held in Ormondville and was well attended, Mr. G. S. Chapman presiding. Mr. R. Benbow reported that the necessary • repairs to spouting; had been made. The secretary was authorised to obtain a supply of spare bulbs for the electric light.. Mr. G. S. Chapman was elected to fill the vacant trusteeship. The question of lining the main hall was again under considcration, and it was resolved to obtain quotations for various makes of wallboard, to be submitted to a special committee.

Porangahau Dance. The Porangahau branch of the New Zealand Farmera' Union held a dance on Wednesday evening in the Town Hall. A large crowd was present, and c-xcellent music was provided by Wi Duncan's orcbcstra. Mr. J. O'Reilly acted as M.C. 'The dainty suppcr was supplied by local members and dispensei by the committee of the Women 's Division. Among those present were: — Mesdames Hope (president of the Women 's Division), Canning, St. Hill Warren; O'Reilly, Grosvenor, Board. Jackson, Lancaster Douglas, Paterson, Healy, Ropiha; Wall, Byrne, Renall; Misses Ormond, Wilder (2), Douglas, Balfour, Treacy. Green, Healy, Wall, Renall (2), Longley and Moroney.

Ormondville School. On Thursday night the Ormondville School Committee met. Present : Messrs. Newling (chainnan), O. H. Nikolaisou (secretary), Longman and Hutchison. An apology was sent by Mr. CJoad. Tho headmaster reported the roll number as 51. The attendance had been good in iie\v oi' the lact that many famiiies have had bad coJds aud minor -ailments. The headmaster suggested the purdiase of a number oi toxt books tor use iu the classes, the eost of which would be small in comparisou with the value of tlie books in siuiplilying the sehool work. .Mr. Smalley was aulliorised to procure these books as soou as possible. Valuablc Medals. On Monday last the children c.ttendiug the Ormondville School had the pleasure oi receiviug the medals promised by the Ormond vilie Town Board in commemoration of the Corouation of King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth.
