FAREWELL AFTERNOON HELD AT WAIPUKURAU

At the invitation of Mrs. J. Hill, raembers of the Waipukurau braneh ef the Mothers' Umon gathered at her resideuce, Farm road, on Thursday afternoon, fcr a farewell party given in lionour of Mrs. G. Cook who, with her husbaiid, is leaving Y/ aipukurau to reSHle in Wellington. Mrs. Hill received her many guests wcarjng a gown of Marina blue ripple silk crepe and. coatee to matcli, the : narrow turned-down collar finished with a tig bow of floral silk. The guesl of honour was wearing a tailored suit in brown tweed, with a matehing tunic, and a ismall brown velour liat with an orange quill. The spacious rooms were charmingJy arranged ivith bowls of spring flowers, big log iires creating a very cheerful atmosphere. A very pleasant afternoon passed s.11 too quickly with original competitions, which were won by Mrs. Bowenng and Mre. H. M. Keir. After a delicious afternoon tea had been served, Mrs. Hill, speaking on be- ; half of the union members, expressed regret at Mrs. Cook's departurc. Sbe Jiad been a member of the Mothers' Union for many years, holding the position of assistant secretary, and duriug the last year she hai acted as secretary. In asking Mrs. Cook to aecept the gixt of a handsome amber neeklace, aecompanied by a choice posy composed of violets, daphne, freesias and pink , cyclamen (which had been made by Mrs. Gr. El'lison), Mrs. HiU wished , Mrs. Cook every suecess and happiness ' in her new homc. Mrs. De Lacy, another union member who is leaving for Feilding, was j also the reeipient cf a- similar posy. Both of the departing guests were accorded musical honours and hearty cheers.
