HAVELOCK CEMETERY
Further Plots Being Developed
LARGER AREA SUGGESTED
The Havelock North cemetery is in first-class order, according to the report presented to the Havelock North Town Board at its monthly meeting last evening bv the cemetery committee. The paths in the old portion, which were reeently sealed, were reported to be standing up well. The last rank of - plots in block F were now being reserved and' block E was being developed. "If the proposal to acquire the adjoining section for use as a cemetery is gone on with," added the committee, ' we suggest that the development of the new property on the lines pursued — ie., that the knob to the right of the jnain entrance gate be taken down to the level of those plots at the entrance, and the spoil tipped into the gully between it and the corner of Kaponga toad; that the knob and approximateiy three feet of the bank at the roadside on this corner also be tipped into the gully; that the bank on the higher portion of the land fronting Kaponga road be taken down approximateiy two feet; over the whole length of the property; and that the sjioil taken from there be tipped into the depression along the boundary of the two prpperties. "Mr A. Ghristie attended the eonference of local-body fepresentatives with Mr W. Bromley, of the Labour D'epartment, and as a result, the employment division of the LabO'Ur Department has agreed to pubsidise labour costs on the whcle of the development work mentioned above. "We are iudebted to Webbs' Nurseries for the donation of bodding plants and shrubs. Donations to the upkeep fund are coming in reasonabjy well, but the amounfc colleeted is hardly equal to that received over the same period last year, 7 \ the report concluded.
