DRIVING-LICENCE FEES
Borough's Revenue Will Not Suffer by New Scheme MINISTER'S STATEMENT Tn response to its representations TegaTding the proposed change in the allocation of motor drivers ' lieence fees, the Hastings Borough Council was, advised last night by the Minister pf Transport that the borough's revenue would be approximately, the same under both systems. . i , ■ ■ "Writing on the same subject, . the Commissioner of Transport advised ttiat it, was not yet possible to give an ac-^ curate figure of the amount that the council would receive • from the alloca* tion of drivers? licence fees, but that thero was little likelihood of the council's future share being less than it^ present receipts from drivers' licences. With regard to taxis and town. car: riers, it was correct that local authorities would lose " plying-f or-hire " fees; ho added, but these were- intended, as shown by various Court decisions, to be tees covering administration expenses only. The commissioner wrote asking for mformation regarding the cost of the contiolling of traffic in Hastings, together with tho mimber of oilicers and ofGce 3taif employed. This is to be supplied.
