State Subsidy For Rivers. Work* J0BS TO BE PUT IN HAND A suhsidy of 75 per ceat of the wages costs has heen offered to th© Hawke's Bayj Rivers Board hy tha Employment Dapartment for river, work estimated to cost £2,520. These works incLttde clearing th©. Karamu stream at a cost of £300; widening the Awanui stream, £950; clearing To Waihaha, £370; and construction of a pilot. channel in the Tutaekuri river helow th© Redclyffe hridge, £900. ' The chairman, Mr C. Lassen, reported that the recent meeting with Mr W* Bromley, liaison officer of the Department of Labour, had been very #atisfactoTy. Mr W. H. Campbell explained that the clearing of Te Waihaha drain was the only . outlet for the Te Mahanga country into the Awanui drain and that it was an essential work. It was decided to put tha various works in hand. They were described. as giving the district a good cleanijig-np.
