OAMARU, July 8. ' The Oamaru Jockey Olub's winter meeting was held to-day in fine but dull weather before a good attendance. The fcrack was greasy after a week's heavy frosts. Dent broke a bone in an ankle when Miss Shambles f ell in the Steeplechase and L. J. Ellis disloeated a shoulder when Mary Pratt fell ih the Winter Handicap and brought down his mount, Silver Lark, The totalisatox handied £10,862 10s (win £4936 10s, place £5926), as against £9039 last year, there being an inerease of £1823 10s. Ellis) 2 8-7 Trivet, 8.2 (Dooley) 3 Also started: 3-3 Half Note, 5-6 Double Shot, 1-1 Mary Pratt, 4-4 Carfex, 2-2 Silver Lark. Double Shot and Mary Pratt led out from a straggling start caused through Trivet breaking the barrier, with Silver Streak and Silver Lark last. Royal Gallant was rushed to the front at the end of a furiong followed by Mary Pratt and Trivet. This order was unchanged to the straight where Mary Pratt Eell and Biought down Silver Lark. . Royal Gallant then came on nieely to win by a neck from Silver Strealc, whieh camo from well back to beat Trivet by h.alf a length. Cari'ex was a head away fourth. Time, 1.30 2-5.
