WAIPUKURAU, This Day. The average attendance at the Waipukurau Pnmary Sckool during the past month was 358, out of a total roll of 378, while at the secondary school the average attendance was 57 out of a total of 58. This information was contained in the monthly report of the headmaster, Mr V. Parsons, to the Waipukurau School Comruittee. Dealing with the control of the schools, he said that Mr Lomas, inspector, had visited the school. Interschooi games had been continued, h.aving been played with Tikokino, Taka^pau, Otane, and Waipawa. It was pleasing to see the improvement in the play and the enthusiasm displayed by the pupils. The secondary teams had played matches at the Pannevirke High School. A very enjoyable time had been spent and the hospitality was much appreciated,. Such visits were very valuable on the social as well as the sporting side of the school activities. The und-year examinations would commence next week, and from July 17 the school would be closed for a, week to allow teachers to attend tlie educational coni'erence in Wellington, where they would hear the views of eminent edueationists from other paris of the world. "We are attempting to publish a school paper once a month and the first issue will be made early next week," he said. "It is hoped "to foster and maintain interest in the school. The articles will be writtem mostly by the children and other information will be included." Support had already been reqeived, mentioning jn this connection Meesrs G. E. Fowler and F. V. Ward. He expressed the hope that the effort would be appreciated not only by parents of children attending the school but also by citizens generally, and stated that a history of the school was to be published in serial form, starting probably next month. — The chairman and other members expressed pleasure at the venturd.
