Britain to Take Extrat 110,000 Cwts CABINET GRATIFIED

DARGAVILLE, Last Night, The A-cting-Prime Minister, Hon. Fraeer, announced at Dargaville tMi .evening that a cablegraax received the. Government from Hon. W. Nai^ stated that negotiations for »n agreement had now been concluded with. the Unitetd Klngdom Government by whldh the total allocation of imports of New. Zealand mntton and lamb for the esJemdar year 1937," had been fixed ei 4,010,000 ewts. This represents an ha-> ;-erease* of ll0,000 cwts. over the besao allocation and also represents the est allocation yet made to. New Zea3fettd« The agreement, stated Mr, FreMf, first of all provided for. a baiie tion of 3,900,000 cwts. Mr, Nash also. stated that an u nouncement eoncerning the egreoment was being made simultaneously by the United Kingdom Government. "I am sure," saidMr. Fraser, "that the prodncers of New Zealand will be gratified at the result that has been achieved. Mogreover, it is an indieation that the United Kingdom Government are sympathetio towards the desire of the New Zealand Government for a regulated expansion of imports of foodistuffs from tho Dominion." The agreement dealt with imports ef jmutton and lamb from both New Zeajland and Australia in respect of which Ithe basie allocations were: — New Zealand 3,900,000 cwts., Australia 1,750,000 cwts, Ij; has now been decided that the iprovision for a xeductioB of 3J per cent, would not apply and that the pro« vision for an increase in tho baaio aflo- • cation, if it proved possible to make -sueh an increase without endangering |the stability of the market, would now joperate. Making the announcement simultaneiOusly with the United Kingdom Govern* ;ment, Mr. Nash expressed himself a* (being well satisfied with the arrange* jments which had been completed. Ha Isaid: "It leaves the way open to a jrealisation of New Zealand 's objective which is ensuring a regulated expansion in the supply of foodstuflEs reqnired by the people of the United Kingdom. -This is the essence of New Zealand 's attitude to the problems of marketing and production.
