GREYMOUTH, Last Night. At a conferenee in Wellington recently it was arranged to launch the New Zealand Timber Workers' Union, states Mr F. L. Turley, the secretary, und registration will be sought in a few days. The organisation is to embrace all of ihe Dominion timber workers e^cept Lhose of Southland and Canterbury, the . 1 emainder, exceeding 6000, having agreed to the proposals. It is understood that the Minister of Labour will allow the registration, tkereby bringiug also into the union those reinaining meantiine outside, they not being more Llian 20 per cent. of the employees m ihe industry. The following have been elected as offlcers until the first annual meeting in January: — President, Mr Humphreys (Wellington); vice-president, Mr Craig (Auckland), both unopposed; secretary Mr Turley, elected by a majority on a' card vote of approximately 3000; irustees, Messrs J. Doyle (Greymouth) and Scott (Nelson). Tha head oflfice is to be in Nelson. The olficers have been directed to draw ufj proposals for a Dominion ag^'eejneat Lo be submittc.d to the branches.
