Resignatioii of Chaiiman WAIPAWA, Jaly 2. The monthly meeting of t'he Waipawa School COuimittee was held last evening, there being present Mewjrs W. E. Tates (chairfflan), S. W. Strang (secretaiy), M." Martin, R. N. Yerran, R. Bfutchings and Mesdames Preston and AdeaUe. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Patterson. A letter of resignation was receivedfrcfm Mr. Egglestone, who had gone to reside in Lower Hutt. This was ac» cepted with regrot. The secrctary reported that the board had not replied up to t'he present eoncerning the proposal to colLvey the Children from Otane to the high school at Waipawa by motor. The headaaster reported on th6 attendance fts follflWs:— Primai'y avefage 179, rell 205; seeondary average 68, roll Mrs. Preston reported on behalf of the visiting coaunittee. She also offered to donate a hasketball for the junior players. The matter of providing hasketball Standards was » left in the hai(ds of Mr. Verran. Mr. Adlam reported that the stove in the scienee rooa had beea replaced., and the^ drinking fountaln repaired. Miss MeConnon had now resumed duty. It wai tentatively suggested that the sehool ball be held on Priday, August 20, being the end of tho terrn. Mr. W. 23. Yates, who had been chairman of the committee for seme years past, tendered his resignatidn dwifig to his xemoval from the district, and in doing so presented a fnll report of the sehool activities for the period to Pebruary, 1937. Mr. Yates' resignation was accepted with regret, several memhers expressing appreciation of the services he had rendered as a member of the committee uiid later as ehairman. Mr. Adlam, on behalf of the staff, expfessed regret that Mr. Yates was leaving Waipawa. Mf. S. W. Strang was appointed as ehairman, and the appoxntment of a secretary was held over in the meantime.
