Eskdale Meeting This month 's meetlug of the Eskdale Women' s lustitute was well attended, Two visitors were welcoined. The meeting was a Scoteh afternoon? and tho motto read ivas, "The best laid schemes o' mice and men gang al'ter a-gley." The competitions resulted: Best plate of shortbread, Mrs Saunders 1, Miss Blair 2, Mrs R. Williams 3. Best bloom of the day, Migs Blair 1. The roll call, Scotch jokes, caused much amusement. • Items were given by Mrs W. Kirkham (song), Mrs and Miss D. Kirkham (vocal duet), Mrs R. Williams (Highland Fling). These were followed by a jolly community sing of Scotch songs. An interesting reading from the hook "The days before yesterday," was g/iven by Mrs King. The hostesses for tho afternoon were Mrs F. Wilson and Miss Wilson. Their competition was won by Miss Martel (from Wanganui), and Mrs C. Kirkham. It was decided to hold card parties again this wiifter. A small tree was generously donated by Mrs Saunders to be planted on Arbour Day. The singing of "AuUl Lang Syne" brought » happy meeting to a cloee.
