MATRON JONES'S RETIREMENT

Our Own Correspondent. )

Entertained By Children of Abbotsford Home>

(From

WAIPAWA, Thas Day. Miss A. Jones, who is retiring from the position of Matron of the Abbotsford Home, Waipawa, was entertained by the children with a delightful concert comprising songs, recitations, and a little play. During an jnterval in the programme a beautiful hand-worked rug was presented to Miss Jones by the children, and Mr Ian Humphries, in expressing their regret at her departure, said she had been a real motber to them at all times, not only while tliey wero in the home, but her advice and lielp had always been available to those who had left. He feit sure that although Miss Jones was severing her connection with the institution, she would always retain her interest in them, and they could rely upon her for counsel and support if necessary. Miss Jones, in reply, after thanking the children for their gift, assured them that she would always be interested in them and their welfare, and if they at any time needed help or advice they could count upon her. At the conclusion of the entertainment all joined in heartily singing "For She' s a Jolly Good Fellow," and in giving three cheers for the retiring matron. The retirement of Miss Jones from her position as Matron of the Home will be greatly regretted by all interested in the welfare of , the institution. She has been a real tnother to the many children who have come under her care, and her work has contributed in no small way to the making of good citizens. She will also be greatly missed in other circles. She was the first Plunket Nurse in Waipawa, and when the St. John Ambulance Association •commenced operations she assumed control of the home nursing classes and rendered very valuable service.
