Mala's Owner Awarded £1500 SYDKEY, June 30. The jury in the Maia case returned a verdiet in favour of the own6r, Mr. Russell, who was awarded £1500 damages. A stay of proceedings was granted. Frank Edgar Russell, owner and trainer of Maia, began an action in ,the Supreme Oourt against the Coinmissioner of Road Transport and TramWays to recover £3000 damagCs owing to injuries to Maia, when ifc was struclc. by a tram on Derby morning, October 3, stated a Sydney cable on Juno 21. Mr. J. Cassidy, who was appearing for Russell, claimed that Makt injured a fetlock and legs as the result of which his chances of winning the A.J.C. Derby and subsequent Sydney and Melbourne cJassic events, also the Great Northern Derby in New Zealand, were seriously prejudiced. The mishap, Mr. Cassidy contended, was primarily due to the escessive speed of the tram.
