Funds for Qmakere-Otane Queen

OTANE, Last Night. On Saturday night the Otane Football Club held its first function in the interests of the Omakere-Otane queen in the Central Hawke's Bay Rugby fcjubUnion queen carnival, and considering the very wet and cold night the attendance was quite good. The evening was devoted to a "500" card tpurnament, three persons tying for first place — Mesdames Roach, Carter and A. G. Clark, Mrs. Clark winning in the play-off. An appetnsing supper was served by members of the carnival committee. Opportunity was taken during the evening to make a presentation to Mr. Belliss, a valued member of the Football Club, who leaves this weck to take up a position in Auckland.. Mr. Harland, who presented Mr. Belliss with a fountain pen as a small token of appreciation from hds club matea, expressed the regret that they felt at losing his serviees and wished him every happiness and success in the future.- Mr. Yoyce also spoke on the good sportsmanship of Mr. Belliss, both on and off the field, and eaid his departure would be a big loss to the team. Mr. Belliss, who was accorded musical honours, returned thanks for the kiind wishes and gift. He had- spent some very happy timos with the club membbrs, he said, and was sorry lo have to sover his association with them.
