WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Wet weather prevailed at Waipukurau on Saturday when the second round of the Central Hawke's Bay Eugby Sub-Union's competitions were continued. Porangahau avenged their defeat at the hands of Otane in the first round by defeating them by 9 points to 6. On No. 2 ground Waipukurau scored a good win over Tikokino by 25 points to 3. With a greasy ball, and frequent showers making the ground slippery, back play was lacking. Nevertheless the game on No. 1 ground was played at a fast pace and excitement ran high. The teams were: — Porangahau (Green and Black): J. Bassett, W. Scott, B. Cochrane, A. Kuru, E. Ross, Petuha, E. Kuru, J. Pahi, D. Tibble, C. Scia Scia, E, Cook, D. McDona,dl W. Niania, H. Otane were penalised aud Bassett, with a good downfield, relieved temporarily. Weak tackling let Bellis through for a thirty-yards run which took play well into the Poranga- , hau 25. Otane continued to attack, and for the greater part of tlie first half their forwards were supreme. There was no further «core at halftime. On resumption of play a weak pass by the Porangahau half saw Burgess break away with tbe ball at his feet. E. Kuru eleared in tbe face of a strong attack by kicking into touch, but failed to gain ground. Otane kept up the. siege and Pene, fieldiug the ball neatly, put in a hard run before handing on to Smith, who scored well out. The kick taken by Green went astray. •The Porangahau forwards began to settle down, and pushing'hard returned to the attack. They were working better now, aud when Otane were penalised well out near the sideline Pahi was unlueky when his kick hit the upright. Rugged play oceurred in the Otane 25, and a cniskick by one of the defending backs let Cochrane in for a score well out. Pahi missed with his kick. Otane returned to the attack, and Porangahau were compelled to force. Fast following up by the Porangahau forwards put Otane in a dangerous position, and when they were penalised for offside play Pahi received an opportunity to equal the scores, of which he took full advantage. An exchange of kicking took place, and a high punt by A. Kuru, followed up fast by the Porangahau forwards, put Otane again on the defence. A few minutes later a further pqnaity. takeu by Pahi gave Porangahau the iead which they maiutained till the encl of "the match.
