Foxton Building Badly Burnt

palmerston n.j Tiiis Day. The Family hotel at Foxton narrewly escaped destruction by fire at 10.45 p.m. Saturday night. When firgt flOtieel the ilames had a good ihold and the kiteheii in which the outbreak evidently originated, together with a bedroom on ihe ground fioorr aUd four bedroom s Of the Upper storey, were all badly gutted fcefore the fire was under control. The fire brigade made an eXcellent SftVe but were fortlxnate in tliat the night Whs a cairn one. The building is a woofien structure of many years stonding so that with even a slight breeze, the flarnes would have spread very rapldly and soen got out of control. In addition to the fire loss, the dlning room and other parta of the building, especiaiy the tipstairs portion, sufipred , damage from emoke and water. Particulars ef insurances are not t available. The hotel had recently been renovatefi and the lieensee is Mr. J. Winni&rd.
