ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
Members Attend Church Parade the ideal of service Feaded by Dr. E. Y. Comrie, the members of the St. John Ambulanee paraded at the Hastings Methodist Church yesterday morning. Mrs T, H. [jowry was also present, representing the Eed Cross Association. The Eev. R. B. Gosnell, who was the preaeher, welcomed the members of the parade and outlined the history of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. .The order he said, dated back to the very early days of Christia-nity and was a religious order founded in Jerusalem. When the Crusaders returned to EDgland they founded a branch there, and it fiourished 'until the days of Henry V'lLL., from when it lapsed until Queen Victoria revived it during her reigu. Since then it had grown, and the first branch formed elsewhere in the British Empire Mad been here, in New Zealand. Next month the order would t eiebrate its centenary. Mr Gosnell paid a tribute to all who ocrved in the order aud in any way in i'ublic service. "No matter how small i.hat service is, we should honour those Who give their time and labour for (.licir fellow-men," he said, "and we skoula be inspired to do every single i.nsk for God and humanity. ' ' He urged the application of the Golden Rule in life and, in concluding his address, commended the members of the order i o the blessing of God and the service of their fellows. During the service the rite of baptism was administered and the choir sang the anthem "Rejoice in the Lord. ' '
