BISHOP ON TRIAL

High Treason Charges Against Nazi Catholic BERLIN, June 26. Charges of high treason were levelled against the 75-year-old Ludwig Sebastian, Catholic Bishop of Speyer, when he appeared as a witness at the trial at Frankenthal of a priesf charged with '"malicious talk. " The Nazi leader asked the Bishop if • he had written letters about internai •conditions in Germany to a foreign Power. ° The Bishop refused to reply, whereupon the Nazi flourished a photostat copy of the letter mentioning quarrels between "Brown Shirts" and "Steei Helmets" allegedly written in 1935 by the Bishop to Cardinal Pacelli. The prosecutor: "Practically treasonable."
