Musical Evening

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Coming in from the wintry outside atmosphere the Women's Rest Rooms, Waipukurau, looked very cosy with bjazing log fires and decorated with bowlus of bliie irises last evening for the Cehtral Hawke's Bay branch of the British Music Society' s monthly musical meeting. A representative programme from the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, consisting of piauoforte solos and duets, vocal solos, trios and choruses and instrbmental selections of concerted items, specially prepared for the evening, were contributed by the members, resulting, in a most enjoyable evening. The programme was as follows : — - Pianoforte group: Duet, Overture to "Mikado," Misses -N. Wharmly and B. Keir ; solo, selections from Gilbert and Sullivan operas, Miss H. Johnston. Vical group; Queen song "Iolanthe," and Ruths song "Pirates," Mrs. R. McD. Scott; "Ah, Leave not to Pine," ("Pirates of Penzance") and Phoebe's song "Yoemen of the Guard," Mr. A. Rathbone. Vocal trio: "Three Little Maids From School," , ("Mikado") Mesdame P. H. Clarke, 'H. /E. Coats and W. Hopkiiison. Male tri'o: "I Am So Proud" (' 'Mikado" ) and "Hi, Who Shies at Such a Prize" "Iolanthe"), Messrs. V. Parsons, E. T. Haldane and J, C. Windle. Vocal solos:. "When a Maiden' ' Loves," ("Yeoman of the Guard" and "No Possibje Doubt Whateyer" ("Gondoliers"), Mr. E. T. Haldane. Choral group (under Mrs. P. A. Riddle): "Comes a- Train of Little Maids'.'. ("Mikado"), "Bind the Raven Hair" ("Mikado"), soloist,. Mrss. P.- A. Anderson, "Climbing Over Rockie Mountains," ("Pirates of Penzance"), soloists, Mrs. E. McNutt and Miss B. Bryce. String group : Trip, • selections from H.M.S, "Pinafore," Messrs. J. C. VVindle'(vi°lin),' H. S. Cottrell (celio) and Mrs. F. Y. Ward (piano). Piano aCcompaniments were played by Mrs. F. V. Ward and Mrs. W. M. Witherow. _ At the cohclusion , of .the programme a dainty supper was served by the iadies committee. ■
