Telephones and Electricity

OMAKERE, Last Night. A large gathering of residents of Omakere and district met at the Omakere Hall for tho purpose of dxscussing various matters. the business taken first being that relative tj the National Party. Mr. Forbgs McHardy, the chairman, opened the meeting, and after giving a brief resume of the past year's work of the party, vacated the chair, and Mr J. Nation ,the secretary, then called for nominations for representatives for the ensuing year and last year's representatives, Mr. Forbea McHardy, chairman, Mr J. Nation secretary, and Messrs. W. Kittow and D, Ritchie vrere all unanimously re-fclected ' members of the committee and as branch delegates. Several new members were enrolled. lmmediately the National Party business "rcas over telephone lines were discussed and now that the electric power Is coming to at least.part of the district the necessity of turning the present earth circuit telephone system into metallic will be necessary and the cheapest way out will be by a regrouping of subscribers. Mr. McHardy read a suggested rearrangement which would only entail three new wires being added and he mentioned that the present poles would not be capable of carrying many more. The meeting then appointed Messrs. F. McHardy, J. Nation and D. Butler as a committee to go thoroughly into the matter and to f ind out co?ts. All subscribers are to be notified later as tO the result of their enquiries. Electric power was- then dipcu -d, but as the direction from which the cnrrent was coming to the • district seemed uncertain .no finality for continuing ihe line byeond. Mohoe Station was arrive dat. A general talk then took place and probably the good fire in the Memori&l Park was the reason why the meeting was prolonged.
