The joint conference of the International Federation of Trade* Unions and the Socialist International under the. presidency of Sir Walter Oitrine, made a eolemn pledge to bring pressure on the Governmeixts supporfcing the League of Nations to assist the Spanish Government, according to the obligations of the Covenant to help to Testore the political and territorial independence of Spain and to enable the Government to buy all the necessary arms to defend its rightd. Sir Walter Citrine stated after the conference that the Tesolution was car« ried unaxximously. AU delegates realised they had a great responsibility, but they agreed it waB hetter to run tha risk of war, while the Spanish GovernT ruent still existed, than finally to drift into war when it waa too late.
