CHRISTIAN NURSES
Hastings Scattered Group Th© monthly meeting of the Hastings Scattered Group of the Women' s Christian Union was held in St. Matthew's G.F.S. rcom. Mrs. Drummond, president, was in tlie chair. The meeting was well attended, and opened with prayers and intercessions. A very encouraging report of missionary work was read. Notes were also given on tlie work of tlie Salvation Army witli the refugee children of Spain, and the afternoon's contents of the money-box were donated to the Salvation Army refugee fund. The president welcomed the speaker for the afternoon, Miss Beattie, organiser of Anglican Sunday Schools in the Diocese of Waiapu. Miss Beattie said her work was threefoid — aniongst the children, teachers and parents. Trying to bring> the children into a more personal touck with God, and to teach them tlie worthwhileness of the cause. The need of real Cliristian living by the teachers and parents, and all who sought to guide and teach young children and growing youth, was strcssed ; the spiritual state being most important. Miss Beattie also gave some interesting word pictures of her experiences at St. Christopher's College in London, where students from many countries were trained in the special work of organisation in Sunday chools and youth work. The practical work among tlie slum children was shown to be
very ththcult, although at times most amusing. Mrs. Drummond thanked Miss Beattie for her address, and the. members discussed' various aspects of the work over a welcome cup of tea. This brougkt the meeting to a olose.
