Mr D. Burke, who has been on the stati' of the Otane Post Office for some time, has beeu transferred to Wellington, and his place has been filled by Mr English, oi the Hastings office. Miss Una Powell has returned to Otane from a holiday spent in Palmerston North, when she w*as the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Nelson. Mr W. Guthbertson, secretary oi the North Ilsand Sheep Dog Trials, who has been attending the championship trials at Blenheim, has gone on to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs O. Burland, of Gisborne, are visiting their relatives, Mr and Mrs N. M. Paulsen, "Brookwood," Takapau. Messrs W. Edgecombe and B. J. Atkins, of Waipukurau, sailed from England yesrerday on their return to New Zealand, via New York Mr W. A. Chambers celebrated liis 72nd birthday yesterday. One of the early pioneers of the Waipukurau townsliip, Mr Chambers was the lirst chairman of the Town Board. He still re- i tains a keen interest in local body af- I fairs, being one of the borough repre- 1 sentatives on the Central Hawke's Bay j Electrie Power Board. i
