INCREASED SALARIES
British Parliameiitarians To Receive £600 A Year (Received 23, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 22. Only a few voices were.raised in opposition to Mr. Neville Chamberlain 's inotion that members of the HoUse Of Commons' salaries be inereased to £600 a year aiid was carried by 325; votes to 17. Mr. Chamberlain said that he was surprised and distressed to find that many members were Ii-ving beyond their means and were obliged to curtail their children 's education and had aetually to allow themselves insuffieient food. "We do not want to fix a salary which will induce people to enter Parliament for the purpose of earningj more than outside," he said, "but we d(. not want a salary so low that men and. women capable of valuable service will be prevented from entering Parinui! out. ' ' 'Ihe extra cust will be £112,000 a year.
