Petiiions in Bankruptoy. Two labourers, CeciJ Phillip Baker and Frederick Arthur Wells, of Napier, have filed petitions in oyNapier Municipal Theatre. Tenders are to be called next month for the erection of the new Napier Municipal Theatre. The plans and siieciiications are almost completed, and it is anticipated that tenders will be called early in July. More Power-Poies. A total of 350 power-poles arrived in Napier from Sydney on board the Kalingo. The poles were ordered in Australia during the recent visit of the secretary-manager of the Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board, Mr H. H. Wylie, who investigated the shortage of power poles. Home of Experiments. "America may be the home of experimentation, but 1 would not say that it is the hom© of standardised treatments," said Dr. J. Roberts Boyd, of Wellington, in reply to counsel before tlie Royal Oommission at Napier yesterday.
Air-Maii Communication. An example of air mail as a speedy means of communication was afforded a Hastings resident yesterday. On May 13 he sent an air mail letter to London, where it arrived on June 1. A reply to this letter was posted by the same means on June 5, and yesterday it arrived at its destination in Hastings. Thus an exchange of letters between the two places has been completed in 40 days, "My Coodness!" "You mean to say that the Hospital Board expected you to pay your fees?" asked Mr. N. A. Foden, Crown Solicitor, to a witness during the hearing by the Royal Commission of evidence concerning the injection of neo-hydriol into a patient in the Napier Hospital with painful results. "Yes, I paid my account of £28," replied witness. "My goodness!" remarked Mr. Foden in an astonislied toue. Work For Sustenance Men. Means of iinding work lor aOlebodied men at present on sustenance will be diseussed at a' meeting of loealbody representatives in Napier tomorrow. An officer of the Employment Department will attend the meeting. Representatives of the loeal bodies eoncerned are to place before the deparfc ment details of work which could be suitably undertaken by men at presen1 on sustenance. Duke of Windsor's Birthday. To-day, June 23, is the Duke of Windsor's birthday. The eldest son of the late King George V. and of Queen Mary, he was born at Wliite Lodge, Sheen, in 1894, and is therefore 43 to-day. He was christened with the uames of Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David. Ascending the Throne in January, 1936, upon the death of his father, King George V, he abdicated in Deceinber of the same year. Intermediate School. Immediate steps to obtain informar tion for an application to the Education Department for the establishment ,of an intermediate school at Hawera were decided on by the Taranaki Education Board at a recent meeting. Dr. W. M. Thomson said it was agreed that Hawera should have the first intermediate school in Taranaki because conditions were favourable. The Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, had been impressed with the site, which provided ample space for building and grounds. In addition there was the necessary number of children and transport could easily be arranged. There would be 240 pupils.
