JOLLY FAREWELL PARTY

Preservation to Mr. Alan Williams and His Otane Friends (From Our Own Oorrespondent.) OTANE, This Day. Prior to his departure from Otane. Mr. Alan Williams was entertained at a very bright and happy farewell party in the Town Hall supper-room, There was a large number present, and Mr. Colquhoun, as M.C., in his usual happy moed, kept tliings moving quieklv. Mrs. Meta played the music for the dances, and Mrs. T. E. Colquhoun contributed extras. At a suitable interval, Mr. O. R. Page, after apologising for the unavoidable absence of Mr. R. H. White, on behalf of those present and others, expressed regret at Mr. Williams' departure and wished every happiness and prosperity in the future. He asked him to accept a monogrammed travelling rug as a farewell gift. Mr. T. E. Colquhoun also spoke a few words of farewell and thanked Mrs. MacDougall for organising the evening to give Mr. Williams' friends the opportunity of showing their appreciation of his services to the town. Mr. Williams, wlio was accorded musical honours, returned thanks for the kind wislies expressed, and for the handsomo a.nd useful gift and for the very happy evening arranged. He knew he would often think of them all and the many happy days he had spent iu Otane. A dainty supper was served by the ladies ,and before dispersing all joined hands aud sang, "Auld Lang Syne." Hearty cheers were given for the guest of honour, ending a most enjoyable evening. Mr. Williams was also the recipient of a presentation from Mr. T. A. Ridge and staff on Monday, of a gold-mounted fountain. pen, accompanied by their good wishes for a happy and prosperous time in Australia. Mr. Williams left to-day (Wednesday) for Wellington en route for Sydney, where he intends to reside.
