N.Z. HOCKEY TEAM
Taranaki Objects To Selection (By Teiegraph— Press Association.) ELTHAM, This Day. Strong objection to the method of selection of the New Zealand hockey team to tour Australia was voiced at a meeting of the Taranaki Hockey AssoMation last night and a motion recording the protest was adopted. It was stated hy Mr N. O. Ebbett that of 16 players chosen, eleven represented city associations. Neither of Taranaki 's two nominees were selected, yet this province was regarded as one of the strongest hockey centres in the Dominion. Taranaki met and defeated Wellington on three occasions and during each of the past three seasons had toured, suffering only one loss. When the all-India team visited New Zealand in 1935, Taranaki had put up the best performance of the tour, although the visiting eleven ineluded eight Olympie representatives. Mr Ebbett moved that a protest he recorded on behalf of all the country players and not Taranaki solely. - While members did not know the capabilities of the selected players, it appeaTed that preference was shqwn for nominees of the major associations, said the president, the Eev. J. A. Rvburn.
