CATHOLICS CONFER

Extraordinary Meeting of Cardinals (Eeceived 22, 8.45 a.in.) LONDON, June 21. A Eome message says that great importance is attached to a seeret meeting of a congregation extraordinary on ecclesiastical affairs, attended by 11 cardinals, over which the Pope presided, which is a rare occurrence. It is believed that the gathering discussed Spain and Germany, which is bcrne out by the strong wording of the apostolie letter which the Pope sen' to the Eucharistic Congress at Posen, chiefly condemning Communism, but many phrases of which are almost equally sfrictures of Nazism. While the' Pope was conferring with his cardinals, Herr Wagner, Governor 'of Bavaria, announced that 11 Catholic schools in Bavaria had been closed and the remainder secularised, states a Berlin message. He added that the Pope wept over Germany, whieh, however, would he happier if he. ordered the Church's representatives tp submit to State authority.
