Busy Night for Brigade
(By Telegrapl
PALMERSTON N., This Day. Between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. last evening, the Palmerston North Fire Brigade was called out on three occasions to suppress outbreaks of fire. The lirst was to the grocery premises of Mr. L. Hughes, Coleman Place, where an electrical ahort behind the meter board had caused an incipient outbreak. The damage was negligible. The second call was to a garage situated in Ferguson street east occupied by Mr. A, E. Baker who accidentally knocked over a primus stove. While the flames were rapidly spreading, Mr. Baker pushed a car out of the building to safety. The garage was ba.dly gutted before the brigade mastered the flames. The third call was to a bakehouse in Main street east occupied by Mr. J. Ellis. Coal heaped on the floor in front of a furnace had become ignited to fill the bakehouse with dense smoke which attracted the attention of a neighbour. There was no damage.
