No Reason for Alarm i SAFETY INSISTED ON NEW PLYMOUTH, June 1^. Parents in Taranaki have no need to be alarmed by the statement of Mr. T. H., Langford, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, that many school buses are death traps, for facts prove that his tcmarks have no hpplication i,n. the province, though 1000 children are carried daily in a large variety of vehiclcs. The Education Board is making a comprehensive survey of school convey'ances, preliminary results of which show that the vehicles are in goocT ordcr. It is pointed out tbat tho Transport Department does not accept a eertificate of fitness issued by a garago for any school bns, and departmental inspectors regularly examine tho vehicles. To assuro itself that no children were .conveyed to school nnder any but perfectly safe conditions the bbard this month circul'arised all vehicle drivers, whether operating under confcract or on ."•h allowance basis.
