Annual Meeting of N.Z. Association PRESIDENT'S COMMENT

FALMMiSTUN iN ., TiXXS Uay. Alr. G. E. Allen, president, was in th chair at the annual meeting yesterdaj afternoon of the New Zealand Romnej Atarsh Sheep Breeders' Association ii Palmerston North. The meeting passed a nxotion of eom dolence with the relatives of the late Alr. W. F. Jacob, of Kiwitea, and the late Mr. W. H. Buiek, 0f Masterton Both were valued and esteemed members of the association. The meeting recorded appreciation of their services. The annual report, previously pubSlished, and the balance-sheet, were read and adopted. ■ Speaking to the annual report, the president said it would be notieed thal / cxporfcs of Romney sheep were on the M iucrease, which must be considered a H pleasing factor. The society should g foster the export of Romney sheep to g other countries. During the presenl i seasoh a visit was paid to New Zealand | by a Russian delegation in search of fj Romney sheep but owing to climatic | conditions and to the fact that it was 1 so early in the season, no purchases H were made. However, said Mr. Allen, g he was informed that it was quite clear S they intended to return during the conlig ing season and compete by paying mars ket prices for any sheep purchased. I It was gratifying that prices realised I during the. year for wool and Romney E sheep had been satisfactory, and it was | hoped this would continue. A number = of flocks had been dispersed during the g year, with the result that several new | floeks would be registered. This would | bring up the membership to well over | the 600 mark. | Mr. Allen suggested the reduction of * ! subscription fees to a level in conform- | ity with that required b^- other breed | societies. 1 Officer3 elected were; President, Mr. | J. Miller (Otago) ; hon. treasurer, Mr. | R. W. Matthews (Featherston); audi1 tors, Messrs K. S. Glendinning (Palmer- \ ston North) and J. Corpe (Feilding). \ Retiring council members re-elected \ were Messrs J. Corpe, J. W. Harding i (Waipukurau),. J. Mosley (Balclutha), [ W. J. A. AIcGregor (Sonthland) and E. \ E. Short (Feilding). Fifty-one new members were elected. A notice of motion by Mr. Mosley, that, provided two-tooth ewes are inspected, the inspection be sufficient and no further inspection . be required on sale, was withdrawn in fayour of the following, proposed by Mr. A. L. Wheeier (Marton) and seconded by Mr. Mosley: That, when any ewe has been inspected, passed and tattoed, no further . inspection be nqcessary except in the
event. ox a pubiic auction, in which case a fresh inspection sball be made. A recommendation adopted was that more attention be given, to fostering educative activities among young breeders. Mr. W. Shields were allotted as follow: — Spring, Manawatu Show; autumn, i Feilding Show. South Island shields, . Gore A. and P. Association; Wheeler ; memorial shield, Wairarapa and East Coast A. and P. Association.
