W.D.F.U. HELD IN HASTINGS The Women 's. Hivision of the Farmers' TJnion held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Mr X H. Joll presiding over a fair attendance of members and friends. Mrs Bunn, convenoi* of the dance held on Tuesday evening, gave details of the balance-sheet, which was eonsidered most satisfactory, a very happy time liaving been. spent by those Who attended. In the card tournament prizes were won by Mrs Butcher, Mrs Lowe, Mrs Heenan and Mrs Hill. Tho Monte Carlo winners were Mrs McGowan and partner. ' Several nlembers promised to assist at the stall of the Epglish disabled .scl'J'ers; • which • is being held in Napier in July. It waa announced that a shop for Division funds would be held on Saturday, June 19, when donations of calces, produce, sweets, flowers, jumble, etc., would be most gratefully received from' any friends or well wishers of tho Division. After a delicious tea served by Mesdames Doak, Dalton and Siddell had been enjoyed, Mrs Dalton showed members had to construct a most usefu] shopping bag from old felt hats, a finished bag being very • much admired. Mrs Dalton also showed how wainty runners and mats could be made in silk hair-pin work, which keenly interested members. Mrs Dalton was heartily thcnked for her most instructive lesSJ11S. M.embers were reminded of Ihe card party early in July in aid of the Anderson triplets, and were asked to make up tables for cards and bring .their friends. The competitions for the day resulted: Best flower, Mrs George Joll 1 and 2, Mrs Dalton 3 ; article from a yard oi cietonne, Mrs John Joll 1, Miss Ebbetfc 2; six goms. Mrs G. Joll 1, Miss Ebbett 2. It was announced that the competitoins for J uly would be apple short cake, and knitted scarf, and a demon-. stration on smocking would be given. It .-. as aiso announced that a .card afto'rnoon would be held in the Divisiou rDorn on Friday, June 25, when friends would be very wolcome.
