GAY FANCY DRESS DANCE

HELD AT HATUMA Colourful decorations and beautiful fancy costumes created a vivid scene in the Hatuma Hall on Wednesday evening, when the Hatuma Debating Society 's "All Nations" fancy dress dance was held. Owing to the very wet night, the attendance was not as large as expected, but the many who braved the elements spent a particularly jolly . evening dancing to excellent muslc provided by Les. Henry's orchestra. The dance hall was artistically decorated for the occasion. From the centre of the ceiling was suspended a large Union Jack, to which wero attached red, white and bliie paper streamers crossing over to the walls, and finished with bunches of greenery. Intermingled with the streamers were strings of smaller flags and pennants. Four large dome-shaped baskets were suspended beneath the lights. The orchestral dais was similarly decorated. These colourful jiecorations, with the gay costumes worn, created a brilliant 'spectacle. Great credit is due to the hardworking committee, compoSed of Mr and " Mrs G. C. Edgecombe, Misses 'I. Thomson, L. Edgecombe, J. Edgar, W. Billington, E. Bayliss; Messrs A. Ferguson, J. Edgar, R. Thomson and L. Cowan, who had spared no efforts in making the evening a success, and thoir efForts were well rewarded. Mr R. Thomson made a most offleient M.C., and the delicious buffet supper served was much appreciated by the dancers. Some of thoee noticed in fancy dresB were: — Spanish lady, Mrs G. C.
