COLD WEATHER FOR FIRST DAY'S RACES

The first day of the .winter race meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club did not attract a very large mimher of women patrons because the day was dull and cold, but tbose wbo W«re present enjoyed a good day's' eport. Frocks were naturally as warm as possible, and the fur-trimmed coat was a favourite, small collars, lapels and ties of fur seeming to have replaced the larger collars. In most cases smallish hats or toques accompanied these coats. Fur coats were also much worn, and in the early part of the day smart suits, but later coats, were necessary. Among those present were: — Mrs G. D. Beatson, who wore a three-qdarter coat and skirt of fine brown check tweed with a fur stole and brown hat with feather mount. Mrs T. H. Lowry, burgundy tailored coat worn with a hgured silk scarf and a burgundy shaded hat. Mrs J. J. Gatenby, black costunxe with a black velvet toque and ailver fox. fura.. Mrs A. F. M. Symes, navy coat with a collar of dark fox and a navy velour hat. Mrs J. N. Lowry, fawn camel-hair coat with belted elfect and a brown felt hat. Mrs N. White, brown boucele coat trimmed with Persian lamb and a smart brown hat. Mrs F. C. Fryer, blue flecked tweed coat land a navy velour hat. Mrs C. Haldane, brown fur-trimmed coat worn with a brown ' velour hat with a feather mount. Mrs K. JDuncan (Hunterville), brown suit worn with a lemon blouse, stone nxarten furs and a brown hat. Mrs W. R. Stead, tailored costume of brown faintly checked' worsted with 8, fur stole and brown velour hat Mrs A. G. Stead, musquash coat worn over a brown flecked tweed suit and a brown hat. Mrs H. Glazebrook, black costume worn with a white satin blouse aud a black hat with white quill. Mrs H. Browning, blue- flecked 'tweed suit with a navy hat and having a lighter blue feather mount. Mrs Ludley • Newbigin, black tailored ensemble worn with silver fox furs and a black toque. Mrs W. Harris, brown tunic ensemble and a brown halo hat. Mrs R. Douglas, deep brown musquaph ooat over a brown Buit, and a brown hat Mrs P. Douglas, short musquash coat over a wine striped suit and a wine beret. Mrs E. Ormond, navy and white checked , tweed suit with fringe trimming and a smart navy hat. Mrs R. Holden, black coat with collar and lapels of squirrel and a lluck toque. Mrs R. Bridge, flecked tweed suit worn with a lemon jumper and a bix-wn hat. Mrs E. Groome, coney eeal coat over a deep blue costume and a blue hat. ' Mrs A. D. Mrs. Irwin, navy suit worn with stone marten furs and a navy hat. Mrs. E. M. Nelson, brown tailored coat over a brown frock with a ccrsage posy of daphne and a brown slouch boret. Mrs. R. H. Bottington (Sydney), fawn coat with collar of arctic fox and a brown toque with eye-veil. Mrs. R. Patullo, brown ensemble and a matching brown hat. Mrs. J. Honnah, wine bouccle coat with collar and - lapels of dyed squirrel and a hat the sarno shade as her coat. Mrs. A.
