COLD WEATHER FOR FIRST DAY'S RACES

The first day of the .winter race meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club did not attract a very large mimher of women patrons because the day was dull and cold, but tbose wbo W«re present enjoyed a good day's' eport. Frocks were naturally as warm as possible, and the fur-trimmed coat was a favourite, small collars, lapels and ties of fur seeming to have replaced the larger collars. In most cases smallish hats or toques accompanied these coats. Fur coats were also much worn, and in the early part of the day smart suits, but later coats, were necessary. Among those present were: — Mrs G. D. Beatson, who wore a three-qdarter coat and skirt of fine brown check tweed with a fur stole and brown hat with feather mount. Mrs T. H. Lowry, burgundy tailored coat worn with a hgured silk scarf and a burgundy shaded hat. Mrs J. J. Gatenby, black costunxe with a black velvet toque and ailver fox. fura.. Mrs A. F. M.
