SCHOOL BUILDINGS
Nevv Type Designed Plans evolvcd by himsolf for a new type of school building were shown to members of the Wanganui Education Board at yesterday's monthly meeting by the architect, Mr. E. E. Hodge. • Addressing members, Mr. Hodgs said: •'The plan indicates what one's years of experience has decided and demandcd as the ideal in school design and equipment, and is in complete keeping with every educatioual advaucoment. "It is of a new arehiteoturo with distinct elements of interest, tho planning of which has centred rouud the idea of the functions of each unit. The physical and cducational welfare of the pupil and of the class have been the foremost consideration and of equai importance have been the constructional processes and objectives involved in the educational programme. The building has been planned to reflect in every way its true character. The central feature of the building is of two storeya and'of simple clas,sic design. It forms the administrative centre and provides for medical and dental accommodation | on the first floor and spacious waiting § rooms and convenieucos. I ''From this block two wings with I northern and western oriontation re3pectively comprise the class-rooms, those with the northern aspect being the latest in open air planning and those of tho western wing comprising all the proved features of fresh air class-room design. Tho convenieuee:ave attached to tho main building by covered ways. Heating will be a de parture from the nsual wall type radiator, and will be low temperature flooi heating. ■' The structure will be in permanent matcrials and will form a very valuable addition to the school instituiion* of the board '& district." ■ « _
