t SYDNEY, June 16. ■ A message from Orangei, New South} Wales, says that the Springboks arrived from Melbourne en route to Sydney,j where they will begin the serious partj of their programme. They played their1 first game in New South Wales to*dayj against a combined western team at] Orange. The Springboks won by 63' points to nil after leading 29. to nil at; half-time. The Springboks' giant forwards wero, early irresistible, joining the backs in> pass»ng bursts and three tries wero, quickly scored, play veering to tho1 right wing, where Turner ran strongly. Later lack of condition was noticeablo and the country team rallied. They; tackled solidly, but towards the end tho heavier visitors carried all before them, acoring a succession of tries. The feature was the splendid goalikicking of Brancl, who convefted nino: ■of the thirteen tries and also landedi two penalty goals. Van de Vyver gave; t an fittractive exhibition at five-eighth,. taking de Yilliers'^swift passes cleverly.i ; Turner 's determination and speed led. 1 to his scoring three tries. Lawton, oaj the left wing, also played with great] i vigour, but could not get thiough till: I near the end. | Babrow was the better of the centres* White being uncertain. Brand gave ani excellent all-round display. The forwards, with their great weight and packing a tight three-four-one formation, carried the scrums and won most of the loose rucks. They also showed skill in passing rushes. Theiri backing up was splendid, and mainly due to this they scored six of the team'* fchirteen tries. Lotz, Van Reeneu andj and the Louw brothers were all great, but the majority of the players are stillshort of xeally good condition and theyare anxious lest New South Wales should be able to take advantage of this fact on Saturday. The only real casualty in the team at? the moment is Williams, the outstanding winger, who has injured a muscle above the knee but is improving. Ho ' may be fit for the .Test on Saturday week.
