REFEREE STRUCK

-Praa ARgociation.)

Assault By Spectator After Match

(By T«Iesr*ph-

WELLINGTON, Last Night. After the Hospital-Waterside Soecer match at the Basin Reserve last Saturday afternoon, the referee, Mr Graham, was struck ^iolently in the back by a spectator. The incident was reported to the management committee of the Wellington Football Association to-night by Mr E. J. McQueen, who represents the Wellington Referees' Association. Mr Qraham was coming off the ground when he was struck by someone among the spectators, Mx McQueen said. "This is the second time such a thing has happened to him. Ai'ter the match on No. 1 ground he was struck in the back witb such force that he lost consciousness for a moment, and when he r.ecovered he was in among the seats. The referees consider something should be done about this kind of treatment. It always happens from behind. If any of the referees catch such a man, he will be brought before a magistrate on a charge of assault." Mr McQueen said when he had played and any feeling had been roused, the players had made a point of keepiny close to the referee as he left the field.
