HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS

Monthly Meeting of Napier Association That "the Napier liigh Seliool Old Boys' Association is now in a strong position Was reflected at the monthly meeting held in the Oddfellows' Hall, when Mr. V. J. Langley presided over .an attendance exceeding 50 members. Mr. Douglas reported that the dancc held last month had been a cuccess both socially and financially. The president said tliat the snookei tournament had also been held since last meeting, and, although beaten, members had enjoyed the evening's entertainment. Arrangements are to be made to kand to the sehool the Gifford Oup. This handsome cup, which has been donated to the sehool by the Old Boys' Cricket Club through the association, is to be awarded as the cricket authorities at the schooi deem fit each year. Perhaps no better memorial could be found to commemorate the late Mr. J. Gifford 's services to the Old Boys' Association and the sehool itself. Regret was expressed, at the news of Mr. N. Simpson 's transfer to Wellington, and Mr. Langley, in congratulating him, thanked him for his untiring efforts for the association in the past and hoped to kear of his assistance to the Wellington branch of the Old Boys' Association in the near future. The association had recently experienced a great loss in the death of the late Mr. W. Dinwiddie. Considerable assistance had always been given the association by Mr. Dinwiddie, and will long be remembered by all. Members present, as a mark of xespect, stood in silence. Mr. W. Prentice then gave a most enjoyable talk on Maori history and legends, dealing particularly with the district surrounding Gisborne. Mr. R. Kennedy, in thanking Mr. Prentice, stated that his inimitable way and stories had eaptured the members, and hoped to kear further from him at a future date. After the usual supper, Mr. T. Prebble began schooling the younger members in the Old Boys' haka, while others interested theiuselves in cards, pingpong, etc. No doubt next month 'a meeting will be looked forward to by all, and any old boys desirous of attending are requested to get in touch with the secretary, care of P.O. Box 114, Napier.
