Successfui Function at Wairoa

WAIROA. Last Night. At the fire station on Saturday night, the Wairoa branch of the South Afri can Veterans Association held the annual reunion and the gathering was not cne whit behind those held here in former years. Mr. D. Byford was in the chair, and aftor formally welcoming the visitors apologies were niade on behjilf of the Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harker, the Gisborne branch, Messrs. J. S. Jessep, J. Peebles, E. H. Ingoe/Dr. E. B. Jardine and the Eev. N. H. Finch. Following the loyal toast the following were duly lionoured during the course of the evening: — "Absent Com-' rades," for which "The Last Post." was sounded by Trumpeter J. Williamson; "E.S.A.," "Dominion Headquarters," "Army and Navy," "Nursing Staff s," "The Nurses," "Police Dcpartment" and "The Chairman." Thcse wero intefspersed with a number of songs and musical numbers, besides war reminiscences. Supper and old waT marching songs, closing with the National Anthem, made up a pleasant evening.
