Special Grant to Society

AUCKLAND, Last Night. The type of case assisted by the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was brought before the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, this afternoon, when a deputation from the society made a request. for financial assistance Mrs. Molesworth, the society's inspector, mentioned that much of the work was akin to that performed by the Police Departmcnt. She referrcd to two niissing girls, one 14 years oi age, and the otlier 17, who had disappeared from their homes. l£ women polic© had been appointed they could have tackled the cases, she stated. The Hon. B. Martin, M.L.C., who introduced the deputation, said that much of the work done by the society relieved the Government of responsibility and expense. 'The work had been expanding every year. Four women had to give the whole of their time to the duties involved, and the difficulty was to get the necessary funds to carry on. The Minister said the work of the society was important. The Government was called upon to assist many organisations, but the new pension system had brought about a great deal of relief. He had arranged for a vote of £160 for the society as a special contribution, and he would bear the society in mind when distributing certain funds that were under his jurisdicfion «
