Ongaonga pubscribers Desire Better Telephone Service

Oomplaints regarding the poor telephone service in the Ongaonga clistrict were considered at a recent meetmg of the Ongaonga branch of the New Zealand Farniers' Lnion, which agreed to malce an effort to have tbe service im.proved. Two resolutions wero adopted, one asking the Post and Tolegraph Department to replace obsolete piiones with modern ones, and another asking the Waipawa County Council to eliminate all "button" '"nsulators and dry joints from its lines. The matter was considered by tbe County Council at yesterday's meeting, when the linesman was 'nstructid to investigate the report. "It seems to me that the ,.e«o?utioii forwarded to the Post and Talegraph Deparment hits at the root of the trouble,'' commented the chairman, Mr N. M. Paulsen. Commenting upon the telephone installation at the conclusion of yesterday's meeting, Cr. T. Butler told a repoi-ter that he knew of cases where old telephones had been replaced by the modern instruments and +be service had been infinit-ely better. In mcst cases in the past, however, old phon.es causing trouble had been replaced with other old phones, and the usera weie now desirous of the modern ones being installed in every houso whero thne wero complaints.
