Waipawa Group
The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Women's Institute was held on Friday afternoon, Mdss D. Jull presiding over a large attendance of members. Mrs. Strang officiated at the piano. The financial statement was adopted, Miss Jull thanked all those who had forwarded entries for "the handicraft exhibition held at Dannevirke recently. The Institute Drama Festival will be heldy at Waipawa on July 30, when it is anticipated there will be large entries. A special play will be prceonted by the Hastings group. Further discussion took place in connection with the afternoon tea arrangements, and upon a vote beiug taken dt was decided to continue with the present system of hostesses. The roll call for the day, "A verse of poetry learnt at school," created a great deal of amusemont. The compecition for a knitted cushion was won by Mrs. Dalton, Miss Frobath securiug first for the best bloom, and for the toffee. The competitions were judge.d by Mrs. Culliford. Oontinuing the Golden Thread series of talks on women of other nations, Mrs. J. P. Walker. gave a very enjoyable address on the women of Tahiti. A very Interesting and instructive demonstration in quilting was given by Mrs. A. R. Culliford, of Norsewood. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Culliford. Afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close, the hostesses for the day being Mesdames, Strang, Drake, Squires, Dickinson, Pratley and W. Treland.
