LUNCHEON CLUB MEMBERS ENJOY TRAVEL TALK
Members of the Hastings Women's Luncheon Club held another very interesting meeting at the Hawke's Blay Farmer's' Tearooms yesterdaiy, when Mrs. H. uNf. Coleman, of Havelock N., continued her talk about Russia, which had.beein so much enjoyed by all who were prosent at the previous meeting. The long table at which every seat was filled, was decorated with bowls of lovely iceland poppies and maidenhair fern. Mrs. A. E. O'Meara, club president, welcomed several new members, and said how pleased everyohe was to have Mrs. Coleman finish her talk. The members listened with interest. to the speaker's description of the opera houses in Moscow and Leningrad, and also to wliat she said about several sliows which they atteaided. including "Prince Igor," "Flames of Paris" and "The Secret Poppy." She said that the opera theatres were run by the State at a cost of about £62,000 a ycar in Leningrad© and Moscow. The plays wore marvellous ,and the scenes breath-
takingly beautiful. One interesting point mentioned was that the programme was written in English, Italiau, Erench and Russian. Mrs. Coleman brought with |ier some beautifully embroidered: sheets and cushions, and painted boxes which she had bought in ltussia, these being typical of the work done there. The speaker described many of the points which especially interested her, arnong them being the apparent emptiness of the streets owing to the lack of private cars. Trams, carts, charabancs and lorries were the main means of conveyance. Mrs. E. Millson proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs. Coleman, and every one showed their appreciation.
