Monthly Meeting oi Cominittee Held ANNUAL BALL ARRANGED Mr W. S. Averill presided over the monthly meeting of the Hastings Red Cross Committee. There was an attfendance of 15 members. Arrangements regiarding the ball to be held in the Assembly Hall on Friday, July 2, were discussed with the joint convenors, Mesdames Selwyn Chambers and It. Cashmore, who reported that special novelties were being introduced in an effort to make the ball as attractive as possible. Tiokets were now available for sale and would be distributed immediately. Arrangements with Mr W. Lints, the weli-known producer, for the production of "1937 Reveille," were outlined by the chairjnan, and the secretary, Mr L. T. Roberts, reported'that the show would be run in the Municipal Theatre, from July 12 to 15 inclusive. Rehearsals were being held daily un'der the able guidance of Mr Lints, and, judging by the enthusiasm engendered, the Reveille - show would more than likely be a conspicuous success." At the moment performers were using the Girl Guide rooms for rehearsals, and the society was very fortunate in securing the co-operation of the Girl Guides' Association in this regard. • Junior "Red Cross Work: Sister Stringjer reported the result of her stay in Hastings and advised that Bhe had visited 15 schools in the district. In- all schools the staffs had received her pro1| csals very kindly and had promised to do whatever waa possible to interest the pupils in the aims and work of the Junior Red Cross. As an aid to increasing the spirit of international friendliness in the schools, the portfolio system was being reintroduoed and each school would prepare a portfolio (the work of the pupils) illustrating tbo district, its features, life, ecenery and industries. These portfolios would be despatched to schools in other countries and the exchange of the portfolios would thus serve as an excellent educational medium. .Mr L.. A. Denton was appointed to represent the Red Cross Society on the Chippled Children 's Committee with a view to keeping the society informed as to the needs of. the children. A motion congratulating Lieut-C'ol. A. J. Manson (a committee member; in his success in being appointed to the responsible position of Sergeant-at-Arms in the House of Representatives, was carried unanimously. To stimulate the interest jof the gjirls in the training classes and assist in keeping up a high standard, Mr H. J. Grievo and Mr VV. B. Hobbs have kindly donated challenge cups to be awarded to the best girl in first-aid and the best girl in the home-nursing examinations respectively. A vote ,ot thanks ,to the donors of- the cups was carried with acclamation. Competitors for the Lady McLean Shield competition were notilied that mstead of the competition being held at Waipukurau as previously arranged, it had now been necessary to rearrange the competition which would accordingly be held at .Napier.
