NEGLIGENT DRIVING
Man's Licence Suspended A cliarge of negljgent driving against a Napier second-hand dealer, James Kenny, was heard by Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in-tbe Napier Magistrate's Court this morning, and resulted in the imposition of a fine of £7 and the suspension of defendant's driving licence for one month. The prosecution was a •equel to an accident on the Westshore ICmbankment some weeks ago. Sergeant G. F: Bonisch detailed an accident. on the Westshore Bridge. After hitting and snapping a post, he said, the defendant's vehicle travelled 216 feet, and monuted the footpath. Constabie J. II. Williamson found defendant on the scene of the accident and considered him to have' been intoxicated, although 75 minutes later a doctor had been unable to certify that he was intoxicated. Mr. V. J. W. Langley submitted that speed did not enter into the question, as defendant had been dazzled bj the lights of an approaching vehicle. By hitting the post he had lost contro! of the steering of the vehicle. The Magistrate, in imposing the fine? comyiented that intoxication appeared to have entered into the question. A charge of' £1 1/- for medica] expenses, although opposed by Mr. Langley, was also jmposed.
